How do I get to Puerto Banus and Fuengirola from El Rosario?

John asked me for help with getting from El Rosario to Puerto Banus and then back to Fuengirola by bus. Seven adults together with seven children are staying in a villa in the El Rosario urbanisation and they would prefer not to hire a car or use taxis.

Hi John, thank you for writing in. The bus route from Fuengirola to Marbella is well served with bus stops. You have a choice of two bus stops. Los Alicates or Las Chapas which is quite a way from El Rosario. It's a big urbanisation so you wouldn't want to be pulling a suitcase when you arrive for the first time. One of the restaurants would be pleased to call a taxi for you. I mention a taxi because El Rosario is a big urbanisation and your house may be a little way from the road.

El Rosario to Puerto Banus by bus

1) Take the L7 Marbella urban bus service from the Las Chapas bus stop to the centre of Marbella and then the L1 bus to Puerto Banus. It's a great little service, stopping at every milk can and the passengers will chat away to the driver. It goes slowly enough for you to make out landmarks as you travel and enjoy the journey.

2) Take the Fuengirola to Marbella coastal service bus from the Las Chapas bus stop and get off in the centre of Marbella. The bus will travel on to the bus station up behind Marbella.

a) From Marbella centre, during the summer months, you could walk down to the Puerto Deportivo in Marbella and take the Fly Blue ferry to Puerto Banus which is a fun way of getting there. The adults can have a cold beer or glass of wine on the boat and the children an icecream.
b) Simply travel on from Marbella Centre to Puerto Banus on the L1 service as described above.

El Rosario to Fuengirola

Cross the road bridge over the busy A7 and take the coastal bus service from the Las Chapas bus stop all the way to Fuengirola bus station. There are two buses every hour. Punctuality and regularity depends on traffic conditions and numbers of passengers travelling. Remember the Fuengirola bus station is right next to the Fuengirola train station so Malaga airport is only 30 minutes away and the centre of Malaga city is a 46 minute journey, one stop past the Maria Zambrano train station, Malaga's mainline train station. Malaga city is well worth a visit.

I hope this helps your planning John, best wishes Mike
