Question: "Hi Mike, we're arriving at Malaga airport at lunchtime 29th August and will be taking the train to Fuengirola. Is there ample luggage storage on the train and do we need coins to operate ticket machine at the train station please? Thanks Cristina"
Answer: "Hi Christine, thanks for writing in. At Malaga airport train station there are ticket machines and also a ticket office where you can get your tickets. The car parking payment machines give change for notes up to €20 so I'm sure the ticket machines at the station will do the same. €5 or €10 or €20 euro notes but not bigger.
About the luggage, the aisles in the compartments on the C1 train to Fuengirola are wide and you can keep your suitcases with you. I was on the train about two months ago and don't remember seeing luggage racks. It's a short journey, less than 40 minutes to Fuengirola from the airport and there are lots of stops in between. Don't take your eyes off your luggage at any time, especially when people are getting on and off the train. Also be careful of jostling if the train is crowded. Put your passports away out of sight before getting on the train.
Christine it's a very comfortable journey, there's music and airconditioning and electronic notification of stations and you will all be fine but at the same time be careful of anyone targeting holidaymakers. I would rather give you a reminder than have someone get off the train with one of your suitcases! My wife puts her hand firmly on her suitcases and glares at anyone who comes near. It's your luggage! Have a great holiday and enjoy your travels. Best wishes Mike"
