Can I depend on the Portillo bus services?

This is the Marbella Bus Station. There is a taxi rank right in front. If there are no taxis, just wait a few minutes. If you are first off the Malaga airport bus, you get the taxi! Get inside information on getting on and off the Malaga airport bus!

Get your tickets from the taquilla shown below. Basically a reliable service the Portillo buses reach all corners of the Coast. At peak times if the bus is full it will sail past you but there will be another one along shortly. This can be infuriating if you are working on the coast and need 100% reliability. Your boss will understand .....
Fiona Hicks very kindly wrote in during November to say, "I was about to leave Marbella bus station on my return to the airport when the driver refused to allow a man to get on the bus because he hadn't got a ticket. The bus drove off with the driver saying he was not going to delay the bus while the man went and bought his ticket." My suggestion is, get into the queue early and buy your ticket online if possible. By the way, if you miss a pre-booked bus journey, get your ticket endorsed at the ticket office for the next service to the airport.

Take a look at the La Concha mountain range behind Marbella. This is the bus stand where you get your bus after buying your ticket at the taquillas above. Watch out for your belongings.
Marbella Buses at Marbella Bus Station
The Marbella bus station is going to have a face lift before the end of 2012. Access will be easier, a central information point will be added, waiting areas and platforms will be given an overhaul. The best news is that the toilets will be made bigger and redecorated. I hope the budget includes toilet paper. To complete the modernisation an internet wi fi access will be provided.

The San Pedro Alcántara bus station is also in the planning stage.
Reliability of Timetable: Marbella bus schedules and times may change without warning but are usually sufficiently reliable. Double check if catching your plane depends on your flight connection.
