Transport in and around Marbella

Getting to Marbella and to other towns on the Coast is easy. The public bus and train transport system has improved greatly in recent years. The taxis generally on the Coast and certainly in Marbella are super clean and modern. The trains stop at Fuengirola train station but will reach Marbella in the next few years.

The Marbella Bus Station is on the ring road of Marbella and has a supermarket, cafeteria and even a four star hotel built above it. Take a taxi to your hotel or hostel from the bus station, or one of the local buses that run down into the centre. There is a fantastic Málaga Airport to Marbella Bus Station bus servicewhich runs from the Marbella Bus Station to Málaga airport and back every day of the year.

For bus travellers you will find complete details of the Costa del Sol buses timetables here and more commonly asked questions about bus and taxi travel on the Costa del Sol The Portillo bus company operate most of the buses on the Costa del Sol coast line and one of the questions I often get asked is "Can I depend on the Portillo bus service?"

Look here for a list of bus stops between Marbella and Estepona and here for a list of bus stops between Marbella and Fuengirola.

You can travel by train from Málaga Airport as far as Fuengirola.  You can set your watch by the  time table, and the trains run from Málaga's main station, RENFE in thse centre of Málaga,  right past the Málaga airport and on to the  Fuengirola station which is the last stop on the line. The Fuengirola Bus Station to bring you further down the coast is only about 200m from the Fuengirola rain station and taxis are right there too.

The national train system in Spain is known as Renfe. For trains along the Costa del Sol from Malaga or Fuengirola check out the timetables on this train timetables and reservations site.
You can get to Marbella on the special Malaga airport transfer service, taxi or coastal bus but once you are here, take things easy. Have a coffee or cold beer and tapas at the Cafeteria Marbella in the Alameda Square in the centre. It's like going to Singapore and having a drink at Raffles. Then take a horse and cart tour of Marbella. Have fun, this is Marbella!
