What day is the morning market at La Cala de Mijas?

The La Cala de Mijas morning market is on a Saturday morning.   I took a trip by bus from Marbella to check out the market. In the market I met Lydia who you see in the picture above.

Lydia was promoting a live music venue in La Cala. La Cala de Mijas by the way is a great place for live music. Meeting her made a nice change to photographing the Marbella to Fuengirola bus stops and I  hope she gets lots of visitors to her bar

How far is the Grand VIK Costa del Sol Hotel  from the La Cala de Mijas bus stop?

It’s about 400 metres from the the La Cala bus stop and it’s not worth getting a taxi to the hotel.  I wish I could say I know everything about the Costa del Sol but this was the second reason I was in La Cala. I needed to measure the distance.

A Gomarbella traveller had written to ask me if she should get a hire car when staying in La Cala  or could she  just use the bus.  I told her a bus will be absolutely fine for getting up and down the coast from La Cala de Mijas. It’s right on the beach, the Aldi and Lidl supermarkets are easy walking distance and there are lots of bars and great restaurants.

Can you recommend a good restaurant in La Cala de Mijas?

Yes!  If you like Thai food  make sure you go to the  Thai Royal Orchid restaurant in La Cala de Mijas. A friend of mine Chatchewan owns the restaurant and his young daughter is an expert golfer. Ask him about his daughter! I’m not just recommending it because I know Chat, the food is really good. Try it.

  1. Hi Kamila

Sorry you had a problem trying to contact me and thanks for using the blog.

The Malaga airport to Marbella bus service is really good value and everyone gets a seat. The current cost for an adult is 4.03 euros. I am sure there isn’t a charge for little ones.

I have just phoned the Marbella Taxi company to ask for the fare between the Marbella bus station and Marbessa / Playa Real and was quoted 17.90 euros, I told her it would be during the day. If it is late at night or over weekends the cost is a little more. I have just realised you are arriving on a Saturday, so it might be a couple of euros more at the most. There are set tariffs for all taxi journeys on the Costa del Sol.

I think that would be the best way to do the journey. The bus from Malaga airport to Marbella bus station and then a taxi to Playa Real. Look in the column for the summer departures from the airport.

Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

I am very excited right now because my little grandson is coming out this Saturday from London and in fact is going to be staying in an beachside urbanisation not far from your hotel. It’s perfect beach weather and I can’t wait for them to be here.

Best wishes from Marbella Kamala and thanks for writing in, have a great holiday.

  2. hi! trying to ask you a question but can’t find your e-mail anywhere on the blog that’s why I am asking you through the comment to the blog.
I have guestion about transport from malaga airport to Playa Real/marbesa club (Heritage Resort)?
Is the airport Shuttle Bus Malaga Airport – Marbella Bus Stop comfortable i.e. does everyone have a seat is it ok to travel with a litle baby (what the ticket’s cost for a babe??). What the best way to get from Marbella Bus Station to Marbesa /Playa Real?? What is the cost?? We will travel in June (arrival 5/07)

  3. Hi Lydia

Thanks very much for writing in to Gomarbella. Miraflores is 4 bus stops past La Cala de Mijas. At the top of the page you will find a schedule for the buses between Fuengirola and Marbella, this is the bus you will need to catch.

The weather is brilliant right now, warm and just right for taking things easy.

Let me know if I can help at all with any other information Lydia.

    Have a great stay!

  4. Hi, my husband and I will be staying at Miraflores in Mijas Costa next week. I know we can take the train from the airport to Fuengirola; but from there, which bus should we take to make it to Miraflores? Thanks!

  5. Hello Joe

Thanks very much for writing in. If you are thinking of making the day trips to Sevilla and Algeciras or even Tarifa to catch the ferry to Morocco, a car will certainly be time effective and at 114 euros for the week, you can’t really go wrong moneywise either.

It will also give you the independence you might be wanting for those extra little trips.

Hmmm, there are lots of places you could go by car! Ronda is only 45 winding kms off the CN340 coastal road and is well worth a visit if you haven’t already been there.

You could do a top up shop one morning in the big Hipercor supermarket in Puerto Banus and do some people watching and so on …

Let me know if you can use any more ideas on where to go.

Enjoy your car but do remember at all times that the Costa del Sol is real cowboy country when it comes to driving. Drive to stay alive and leave a big margin to allow for the different driving styles you get down here.

Enjoy your trip, have a great time and best wishes from Marbella!

  6. I am staying at Marriotts Marbella for a week. I can rent a car at Malaga for 114 euros a week. It is more convenient and cost effective that buses? We would drive to the resort. take a day trip to Seville, take the ferry to Morrocco, buy groceries etc.
