La Linea Bus Station

To get to Gibraltar by bus you need to travel to La Linea bus station. La Linea de la Concepción is the Spanish frontier town on the border with Gibraltar. As you come out of the front entrance the iconic Rock of Gibraltar is clearly visible.

The Spanish border entry point into Gibraltar is very close to the La Linea bus station. Perhaps 5 minutes walk without a suitcase and 8 to 10 minutes if you are trundling a suitcase, but very walkable.  Step out of the bus station and there’s a great little cafe next to the roundabout in front of the La Linea de la Concepción bus station.  Gibraltar airport is no more than five minutes walk after you cross the border.

If you are planning an excursion to Gibraltar by bus  then La Linea bus station is an important destination for travellers visiting Gibraltar or flying on from Gibraltar airport just over the border. The La Linea bus station serves the Comes bus company which operates the bus routes in Cádiz. The Portillo bus company covers the Costa del Sol up to Málaga. Both bus companies operate buses into each other’s areas. For example the Comes bus company has a long distance bus from Cádiz to Málaga bus station and the Portillo bus company operates the service from Malaga bus station to the city of Cádiz.

Visitors often land at Malaga airport and need to to get to Gibraltar by bus the same day. Depending on the time of day there are direct buses.  Travellers can also pick up  connections from Malaga bus station or Marbella bus station to Gibraltar terminating the journeys at La Linea bus station. From La Linea you can bus to most points in the Cadíz province. You may need to take one of the half hourly buses to Algeciras bus station though to pick up your next connection. Travelling to Sevilla you’ll pass the Jerez de la Frontera airport on your left.

The Gomarbella bus ticket booking engine below will take you to the La Linea bus station from all points on the coast. When you type in La Linea you will see La Linea de la Concepción. That is correct, it is the full name of the border town.  Book a return ticket from La Linea before you travel or else buy a return ticket as soon as you arrive at La Linea bus station. The exit queues from Gibraltar are unpredictable and you don’t want to be queuing again at the ticket office just before your bus leaves. There is no left luggage storage locker at and I advise you to look after your possessions when you are getting on and off your buses and at all bus stops and stations along the route. You would do that anywhere wouldn’t you?
