Maria Zambrano Train Station in Malaga

The María Zambrano train station in Malaga is an ultra-modern transport facility for tourists and travellers visiting the Costa del Sol.  It’s only 8 minutes from  Malaga Airport (Aeropuerto) train station and right next door to Malaga bus station.  A question I am often asked is  how do I get to Marbella from Malaga train station? It’s very easy, just take the bus from the bus station next door. If you are tired after your train journey,  take a taxi from outside the station. For onward travel to destinations by bus, for example to Puerto Banus, the Malaga bus station is right next to the train station.

Malaga Maria Zambrano train station  is the second last stop on the C1 (Cercanias or Local). The last stop is  Malaga Centro Alameda s in the heart of Malaga city. Train passengers can travel all the way from Fuengirola train station into the centre of Malaga in less than 45 minutes. The train is air-conditioned an comfortable.  The cost is minimum. If you are travelling on the train for a day out in Malaga, then stay on the C1 train to the Malaga Centro Alameda. It’s the last stop on the line.

As you come out from the underground C1 train platform you’ll see the left luggage storage lockers. If you have time before your next journey, for a small fee you can check your luggage in.  Then explore the city.  To take a taxi from Malaga train station walk straight out of the station. You’ll see a row of clean metered taxis ready and waiting.

The high speed AVE trains for Madrid glide out of the train station almost every hour. Trains leave continously for Seville Santa Justa train station, Cordoba, Madrid and Barcelona. A helpful tip is to remember that if have just arrived on the AVE then your ticket for your onward travel on the C1 train is free. Just convalidate your ticket on any machine on the station or at the ticket office. If you are picking up or returning a rental car to the train station the car rental offices are on the right as you walk off the train platform.

Travellers often ask me how close the train station is to Malaga bus station. The answer is that they are side by side. If you have just arrived at the train station and are travelling on by bus, you’ll come out from the platforms under the Arrivals and Departure signs on the left in the picture above, walk around the escalator on the right which leads to the cafeterias and restaurants on the first floor and then look for the exit to Malaga bus station on your right.

Planning to take a bus or taxi to Marbella from the train station? You can the scenic route and visit the towns and bus stations in between Malaga and Marbella or choose the faster Directo or Express service which does not stop along the route.  Dave wrote in for help with getting to Marriott’s Marbella Beach Resort in his rental car from the train station.
